KGF: Kolar Gold Fields
kgf stands forKolar Gold Fields. It is a gold mining area that is located in the Bangarpet Taluk located in the Kolar District of Karnataka, India. This was among the largest ore mines of gold located in India that was shut down in 2001 due to rising production costs, reducing the gold reserves, and low production.
It was a famous site for gold in the past and the second deepest mines of gold around the globe. It was also known in the form of "Little England" by the then British population owing to the pleasantweather along with its mesmerizing landscape. Even today, you can see some British houses, well-planned streets and structures on this spot. Golf courses were constructed in 1885 by KGF for British workers of the gold mines, and it is recognized by the Indian Golf Union.
